Training, qualifications and experience
My background lies in nursing so I have been supporting people for many years now. I realised what I enjoyed most, and where my strength lies, was spending time with people and hearing their stories. I started looking into the requirements to become a counsellor and started a level 2 course in counselling skills at Bournville College after which I continued onto a level 3 course at Solihull College.
These two courses confirmed I felt passionate about becoming a counsellor and I went on to complete a BSc in Humanistic Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy at the Sherwood Institute In Nottingham. This course taught me how our early relationships can (often unconsciously) impact on us and our relationships in the present, about child development, what it's like to be in the client's seat and many other things! I have worked with clients from a wide range of backgrounds and have several years experience working with clients who have experienced sexual violence and abuse.
In addition I have many years experience supporting people with work-related mental health difficulties.
I am an accredited member of the BACP.
